STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Warm Yet Chic

Style Advice of the Week

High 12° F and low 1° F; great way to start our first week of classes… not! That has been the weather up here all week in New Hampshire. Everyone is bundled up and running to class trying not to freeze. I could not see anyone’s cute first week outfits because they were all under their heavy coats and scarves. I could not even look straight ahead because I felt like my face was going to fall off. But in the distance, I saw this Fashionista looking trendy while still keeping warm. She is styling a striped, black and white sweater with bright, blue pants. Over her outfit she layered a long, chic, beige jacket and paired it with black booties.

The oversized sweater is the way to go in this cold weather and depending on how you wear it, you can still look chic like this Fashionista. Black and white is such a classic color combination that will never go out of style. Pairing them with a bright colored pant brings out the contrasting hues even more. It is also a popular trend on the runway this year! I love her trenched styled coat that really brings the outfit together. Keeping the coat neutral was the way to go and it made her pants the focal point of her outfit. The belt on the coat adds shape to her body without making her look too boxy.

Having an oversized sweater is also a big trend this year and a must-have; particularly if you live in the colder states. This piece is very versatile. You can pair it with colored pants or tuck it in a skirt with cute tights. It can also be layered over a dress if the sweater is short enough and add a belt for a defined waistline. You can be as creative as you want to be with it. This sweater from NASTY GAL is perfect for these kinds of outfits. Also, Urban Outfitters displays a cute outfit you can get inspiration from with an oversized sweater you may have. The key to keeping warm is to layer, layer and layer. You can wear three layers under your sweater without anyone noticing and also wearing leggings under your pants would be a good idea to stay warm. I personally love to put a collared shirt underneath and let the collar pop out for that extra touch to my outfit; it can also be a way to add a pop of color. You can add a statement necklace to that as well. Let’s all stay warm this winter!
