Style Advice of the Week

Spring is one of my favorite seasons to dress for, and if you live in the midwest, it’s one of the most difficult seasons to dress for as well. You could wake up and it could be rainy and freezing, by lunch it could be sunny and 75, and by sunset it could be a complete blizzard. Having to dress for these conditions are pretty difficult when you’re always wanting to look your best.

I think the best thing you can do when it comes to the ever-changing weather is to find as many versatile pieces in your closet as possible. That way, you’re always prepared. This Fashionista works a chilly day look wonderfully. I spotted these plaid pants from across the  quad and I thought they were perfect for the weather we were experiencing! They gave a nice pop of some spring pattern but still kept the Fashionista warm and toasty. Throwing on a white lace top was spring perfection and adding a bright red blazer took it over the top. The color really stood out on this dreary day. Her sassy heels and accessories add a nice touch to this already overly chic ensemble.

There are many important weather versatile pieces that every Fashionista should keep on hand. One of my favorites is a chambray shirt. They’re a great piece that can be added to almost any outfit. Throw it on over a sundress when the temperatures are low in the morning, and when the sun starts shining just tie it around your waist for an effortlessly glamourous look. Another essential piece that I think is important is a vest. Any vest will work but my favorite right now is the utility vest. It will give you an extra layer when you need it but it definitely won’t weigh you down. It looks adorable over a fun tank or over a baseball tee if there’s an extra chill in the air.

Shoes are sometimes the most important puzzle piece in making an outfit fabulous. My favorite spring shoes right now are d’Orsay flats. They look great with ANY outfit. I love wearing mine with overalls but they pair incredibly with skirts, dresses, pants, or jeans. Since they aren’t technically sandals, your toes won’t freeze throughout the day but you get the feel of the sandal with the open sides and top. It’s the best of both worlds! Try finding a pair that has different tones in it so it can really go with any outfit. I love these nude, white and gold ones from Nordstrom. All three are great spring colors.

Standing out above the crowd is always important when it comes to fashion (and being weather appropriate), but make sure you’ve got key pieces on hand to complete all your amazing looks!
