STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Urban Retro Fashion

June 16th, 2015 at 2:10am

When you hear the word “retro,” you usually think about the ’70s, ’80s, etc. Retro style is basically the imitation of trends or fashion of the past. Urban retro is just a mixture of new school and old school fashion. The main attraction in this Fashionista’s outfit would be the jersey. It really makes the whole outfit stand out because it’s stylish and different. The great thing about jerseys is that you can wear them in many different ways. I’ve seen people wear them casually, from going to a game to attending class.

What I love about this Fashionista’s look was the way she incorporated old school into her outfit, but with a twist. It was trendy yet unique in her own way. Instead of just wearing the Chicago Bulls NBA Jersey with some jeans and sneakers, she dressed it up with wide leg trousers and patent pointy toe stiletto pumps. She created a cool urban look by adding a leather biker jacket and accessorizing with round vintage sunglasses.

Another great thing about this Fashionista’s outfit was that she had purchased a lot of these pieces from a thrift shop. The only piece that was not purchased from a thrift shop was the leather jacket. Thrift shops are the best places to go to when experimenting with fashion. You will always find great affordable vintage pieces. And as college students, we are always on a budget. So I definitely recommend that you check out a thrift store this summer!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “My basic style advice is shop smart. There’s constantly so many trends to keep up with, so it’s important to look at discount places where you can buy pieces that can be mix and matched. Buy a couple pieces that stand out and save them. Then, find basics and keep those in handy so you can rotate them into your wardrobe.”
