STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Turtlenecks

I know what you’re thinking. Turtlenecks? They are not necessarily synonymous for being fashion forward… But think again Fashionistas! The traditional high collar pullover is reborn this season and is more chic than ever.

Countless fall runway shows featured turtlenecks as a key component to effortless layering. In particular, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Helmut Lang repeatedly had looks that included turtlenecks, which goes to show they can actually be very elegant and stylish. This season we are seeing more of a loose cowl neck, and the silhouette is evolving into an oversized chunky knitted tunic.

This particular Fashionista not only dared to wear a turtleneck, but did so in the chicest way possible by layering and accessorizing to create an edgy look. Since the sweater is longer, she paired it with distressed black skinny jeans and classic ankle boots to elongate her legs and keep her shape. She kept the jewelry simple by wearing small earrings and rings and a delicate chain necklace. Since it’s still winter she layered a black leather jacket atop the sweater, which compliments her relaxed but edgy look. Because the sweater’s neck is larger and the main focus of the outfit, she chose a more minimalistic approach for hair and makeup. Her chic top knot, pink lips and defined eyebrows is perfect for going to class but still looks refined like the rest of the outfit. This Fashionistas secret? Her turtleneck is actually a tank top, which means that she can easily layer without getting too hot or appearing bulky. This trendy sweater is also great for the coming months as we transition from winter into spring.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t be afraid to wear turtlenecks! They are warm, comfortable and very on trend. I especially love this tank top because I can wear it so many different ways.”
