STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Too Cool Fur School

Style Advice of the Week

These past few weeks in January have been some of the coldest ever all around the country. While we are all desperately trying to bundle up, we need to remember that it is possible to look put together and feel warm at the same time. This Fashionista does just that by employing a faux fur coat which is both fabulously chic and fabulously cozy. She paired it with pieces that give her maximum warmth and are exemplary of her personal style.

Faux fur is a winter staple that tends to be overlooked by college students due to its extravagance. These coats offer warmth, comfort and elegance and they should not be feared! I can say from experience that throwing one on during a wintery day is as satisfying as it is luxurious.

This Fashionista pulls off a feathery, gray coat in a way that appears both casual and courageous. With an almost entirely monochromatic palette, she brings a pop of rich color to the dismal weather with an intarsia crewneck sweater in fuchsia featuring a black dragon print. The color is deep enough for winter, but bright enough to stand out. She then experiments with textures adding black, velvet leggings and sky high, leather wedge boots. The boots may not be the best option for walking on snow and ice, but they do add an edge that says fashion is pain. Opt for these on less icy days.

This coat looks a lot like this one from Isabel Marant, but you don’t need to break the bank to score some fur. H&M is selling this jacket and NASTY GAL has plenty of options, as do thrift and vintage stores. Whether it’s patchwork, ombré or a crazy color, a faux fur coat says that you know how to be fashionable and functional.
