There are a few golden rules I like to follow when it comes to fashion. Comfort and versatility are two major ones I use to assemble outfits every day. There is nothing I love more than when I find pieces that follow these two rules perfectly. The maxi dress is definitely one of them.
The maxi dress is known for being a long free-flowing dress that’s floor length and typically made of cotton, making it a perfect summer item to have in your wardrobe.
This item fits the rule of versatility because of the different styles and cuts it’s very popular for being in. The dresses come in casual styles like the popular tank top racerback dress fitted to hug the body. A personal favorite of mine is the solid color dress with an elastic waist to show off some curves like this one from Wet Seal. They also come to be a bit more formal with crocheted detail like this one from Forever 21. A recent trend is the slits up the leg, which I spotted our Fashionista wearing flawlessly on campus.
This outfit is the definition of simple with the traditional black and white. The focus of the outfit is the maxi dress. A fitted piece with two slits on each side showing off her legs. To accessorize and make the dress pop, she added a gold chandelier necklace with white jewels. On her wrist she wore a white watch, and on her feet she wore strappy sandals with white and gold detailing to tie into the necklace and watch.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Makeup can really tie a look together. It won’t come easy on the first try, the more you practice the better you’ll get. Don’t be afraid to move outside your comfort zone with colors and styles. Play around until you find your look.”
