STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Throwbacks Aren’t Just for Thursdays

When I hear the term “throwback,” the social media hashtag is what usually pops into my mind. I imagine cherished moments with friends and family and events like birthdays and vacations that we all wish to relive. Though I always enjoy looking back on wonderful memories, I equally appreciate throwbacks in fashion.

Starter Jackets may have been a trend of the late ‘80s and ‘90s, but they still add instant coolness to any outfit. This Fashionisto is wearing an NCAA one that he got on eBay for quite a steal. He says you can also find them at stores like Goodwill or the Salvation Army, but you have to act quickly because they sell fast.

I really liked this look because it shows school spirit without being too flashy or cliché. He paired it with a pair of dark blue jeans and wheat work boots to make it stand out. This jacket isn’t one you could pick up at the bookstore on campus which makes it special. If you are able to find a vintage Starter Jacket of your own, I can guarantee tons of compliments will flood your way.

I highly recommend trying out second-hand shopping. Even if your style differs from this Fashionisto’s, you are likely to find one-of-a-kind pieces that will make your wardrobe stand out. Shopping at thrift stores is the easiest way to experiment with riskier trends because the worst that can happen is losing a few bucks!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I live just outside of Chicago, so there are tons of thrift stores in my neighborhood to choose from. They usually have daily deals and student discounts which make the clothing and accessories extremely affordable. I frequently check them out so I don’t miss out on any hidden gems!”
