STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Style Side of Slip and Slide

The Northeast has finally caught up with the rest of the country as we’ve had our first full week of summer weather! With the dramatic change from frost to immediate scorching heat, none of us hesitated to throw our sweaters to the dark recesses of our closets. But what’s the best part of clearing out our wintery wardrobes? The empty space we have to fill with the new season’s hottest trends.

Although we love the beautiful bronze tans, shimmering hair and skimpy clothing that summer brings, the season also means overwhelming heat. Overwhelming heat means inevitable sweating and inevitable sweating puts you at risk for fashion emergencies like sweat stains and smells no one needs a whiff of! Have no fear though—there’s an effortless, classic trend that has made itself known in one way or another ever since its popular introduction in the ‘90s. That trend is the slip dress.

This Fashionista is the epitome of cool for the summer. In this look, she’s wearing a modernized version of the slip dress with a high neckline. With her trendy ombré version, she’s ready to battle the heat in any occasion. The flowing silhouette leaves room for air to circulate, reducing the risk of sweating. Did I mention no bra is needed when wearing a slip dress? Start the cheering now, as bras are our worst enemy in the summer. They suffocate us and cause us to sweat, plus they are already uncomfortable to begin with. With that said, we all know how they feel in the summer—ten times worse!

Thanks to the slip dress, we have a way around the rising temperatures while still looking fabulous. With just about every store carrying this trend in one form or another, we have enough options to find slip dresses casual enough to wear to the grocery store or classy enough to wear to a cocktail party! Plus we all know accessories can revamp an entire look. Let’s look closer at this Fashionista.

She’s wearing a bold and black statement necklace that’s long enough to draw our eyes immediately. This one, from Charming Charlie, took this look from simple to styled. Those sunglasses are all the rage right now with their ‘70s circle frame and the shoes fit right in with the decade with their chunky heel and lace-up build… Steve Madden does it again! What’s the icing on the cake? The sleek and small purse brings the darker colors full circle and adds a bold factor.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “As I learned from Rihanna, anything you don’t have to wear a bra with is golden! Going braless beats the heat and a slip dress is just loose enough to make sure you’re not feeling insecure!”
