STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Rules of Layering; There Are No Rules

The first month of school is hard. As the sun is still shinning outside the windows of your class, it feels wrong to stay inside while the pool, sun and last few bits of summer are calling. Walking to class in your summer style is fun, but sweating through the fabric of your clothes is not. So as October rounds the corner, the air turns crisp and leaves change brown; the back to school fashion game has officially begun.

All across Belmont’s campus, girls have dug deep in their closets pulling out their chunky sweaters, favorite jeans and boots ready to rock the comfy cute style with a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte in hand. I love how this Fashionista layered all the pieces in her outfit. Individually all these pieces are great, but together they are fabulous and make a statement. The little black dress paired with a poncho-cardigan mixes different lengths that adds a fun twist to layering and the air is still warm enough to show a little leg! Adding a simple gold necklace to the piece draws your attention to both the dress and sweater, but isn’t distracting and really pulls the whole outfit together.

My favorite part about this outfit is that not only is this Fashionista mixing textures and lengths, but she’s also mixing colors proving that in the game of layering anything goes. She kept it simple with a brown riding boot and added some flavor by adding a pair of knee-high Free People socks. This Fashionista did a great job of dressing up a simple black dress and a pair of brown riding boots.
