STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The "Rise" of Platform Sandals

June 16th, 2016 at 2:00am

If there is one summertime staple that never seems to go out of fashion, it is your quintessential pair of sandals. Whether you are cruising the beach or window shopping at the mall, you are most likely going to find a girl or guy wearing their tattered, trusty Rainbow sandals.  Although nothing is wrong with a go-to pair of simple sandals, it is always fun to take a little risk and step outside of the box.  Many Fashionistas have substituted their average sandals for the gladiator shoes. However, summer 2016 fashion trends are straying away from this “ancient” shoe, and instead we are seeing the “rise” of platform sandals.

Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren spring 2016 fashion shows were full of the platform sandal trend, and this Fashionista is definitely ahead of the game. The understated, yet substantial platform and subtle, yet striking straps blend together to form a cohesive and eye-catching shoe. This Fashionista was able to add a little bit of edge to her feminine babydoll dress with just her sandals. A plain, lackluster sandal would not do this outfit any justice; these bold platforms add some spice to her look and “step up” her style game.

Want to take a page out of this Fashionista’s style guide?  Well, that is simple. Flowy, fun dresses are never at shortage during this time of the year. Free People always seems to fulfill all your dress dreams, and with summer approaching, the choices are endless. Classic, uncomplicated accessories pair perfectly with this outfit; her gold pendant necklace and Alpha Phi ring were the perfect little touches to top off this look. Now it is time to talk about the star of the show: her platform sandals. This new, summertime trend has caught the eye of brands like Urban Outfitters and Steve Madden; wherever you go to shop this summer, you are more than likely to satisfy your platform sandal addiction.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I love playing with my pieces. Do not be afraid to mix a cute, girly dress with a rockin’ pair of sandals; no one likes boring.”
