STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Rain In Spain Stays Mainly In The Plain

Style Advice of the Week

This week’s Fashionista has a twin that I wrote about just a few weeks ago. Super cute style must come in pairs!

In a tribute to Audrey Hepburn, I’ve titled my article with some famous lyrics from “My Fair Lady.” Hepburn was the epitome of style in the 1940s, and this Fashionista’s clear bubble umbrella reminded me of something Audrey would have toted around the rainy London streets.

When it rains, it pours. In St. Augustine, it pours hard. The weather can easily get you down and soon enough you’ll find your wardrobe choices emulating the dreary skies. This Fashionista’s bright rain coat was the exact opposite of what I was expecting to see on my trudge back from class. Although it was only drizzling at this point, I was already soaking from before so I figured a stylish photo op wouldn’t kill me (dramatic, I know.) After all, how could I pass up a picture of this jacket?  The seafoam green hue of this Fashionista’s rain coat is a far and exciting cry from the normal black and navy ones you often see. The weather is gloomy enough on its own, so there is no need to enhance it with your own ensemble. Studies show that wearing bright colors can help you feel happier and more motivated, which is just what you need for a rainy day when popcorn and a snuggie are calling your name.

The key to wearing such a bright color is balance, which is something this Fashionista struck perfectly. Her black leggings kept her legs warm, while also helping to repel some of those heavy drops. For college campuses with rainy climates, rain boots are a must have for those wet treks across the quad. This Fashionista opted for the classic and functional in her Hunter Boots, which she accented with a simple pair of gray welly socks. The gray infinity scarf looped around her neck pairs well with her socks, as well as provides a shield from the frigid rain. Finishing the look is her adorable umbrella, in a huge dome shape that was sure to keep her dry. Get one like this here.

People wear bright colors all year round; the automatic cling to darker shades when the weather gets stormy is beyond me. My advice this week is to purchase a rain coat in a fun and eccentric color. Ladies, check out this fuchsia one from The North Face. Guys, this lime green Marmot is both sporty and eye-catching. Just because the weather is dull doesn’t mean your outfit has to be!
