Style Advice of the Week

After a long and glorious winter break, the spring semester is finally starting here at Kent State University. The day before classes begin is the day when sweatshirt-clad students haul all of their clothes, shoes, food, toiletries and, of course, holiday presents back to their dorms for the new semester. Therefore, move in day for students is not as much of a fashion show as it is a day for practical dressing. However, one Fashionista caught my eye as her look was not only comfortable for the day of unpacking, but it was also undeniably cute.

Wearing a black tunic, pair of leggings and pair of riding boots along with a brown leather tote, this Fashionista went for a mostly neutral look. What really pulled her outfit together, however, was her floral scarf that was doused in little pops of color. Her scarf elevated the outfit from simplistic to put-together, practical and perfectly adorable. I love that an accessory as common as a scarf has the power to really complete a sartorial ensemble, and I love that this Fashionista also recognized this idea.

If you’re looking for ways to cutely amp up any outfit and maybe even keep your neck a little bit toasty as we transition from winter to spring, you’re in luck. Forever 21 and Tobi both offer a wide array of fun and colorful scarves. One of my personal favorite places to look for unique and quirky scarves is Madewell and I am currently obsessed with this one for spring.

So, for your next move in day, consider completing your comfy look with a splash of color by way of a scarf and remember that you don’t always have to sacrifice your style in order to dress practically. Who knows, you might even run into a Style Guru between moving boxes from your car to your dorm, and who wouldn’t want to look adorable for that?
