STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Layered Look

I first decided to stop this Fashionista to compliment her on her leather jacket. The contrast between the black leather material and the brown quilted sleeves turned what could otherwise be just your typical leather jacket into the perfect statement piece. The sleeves also gave it more of a bomber jacket look. When I saw the outfit that she had underneath her jacket, I knew that it’d make for the perfect feature.

Her look began with a white V-neck T-shirt and a pair of jeans that she cuffed at the ankles. She incorporated color with the next layer which was a red and blue plaid shirt. Despite the weather being on the nicer side for the day, it was still a chilly day. Her knit cardigan not only added a different texture to the look, but that and the black knit scarf provided extra layers of warmth. The pieces making up the Fashionista’s outfit contributed multiple detailed elements, with all the zippers and different buttons on each garment, so she decided that the outfit had no need for jewelry. Her feet were adorned with platform oxfords and she was ready to hit the town!

Why is layering such an effective look year-round? Well, depending on the season and weather conditions one is able to choose pieces with fabrics of different thickness to layer, making it possible to layer no matter the time of year. When layering, one should always pay attention to the details of each piece to ensure that the outfit meets its highest potential. Once the perfect layered look is created, exchange items in the ensemble to form even more outfits. It’s all about mixing and matching. Get out there and layer!
