Style Advice of the Week

Recently, Washington D.C. has experienced snowy days and windy nights. The typically paved streets are dusted with white and coated in thick sheets of ice. This uncharacteristic weather has thrown many students and his or her wardrobes for a loop. Instead of sporting a heavy coat, jeans and boots, many have added a few more accessories to their look. From mittens and gloves to whimsical hats, the Fashionistos and Fashionistas of GWU aren’t letting the cold weather freeze their sense of style.

This Fashionista was headed to class when I spotted her playful hat from afar. Even amidst the chilly weather, she still looked chic and ready for a day of class amongst the cold weather. She completed her look with a cozy tan jacket, blue jeans and leather riding boots. Together, this compilation is simple and easy to recreate with basics that are already in your closet. However, what truly sets this Fashionista apart is her whimsical hat, topped off with a pom-pom.

Winter hats have grown in popularity and expanded in shape and style. From slouchy beanies to wide-brimmed fedoras, there are so many ways to stay hip and heated up. Be sure to choose a type of hat that will reflect your look. If you are looking to head to class in leggings and a chunky knit sweater or a puffer vest, opt for a slouchy beanie or a pom-pom topped option. However, if you are dressing up your look, try a more structured fedora, in order to retain the more formal feel of your ensemble. No matter what hat you choose, don’t be afraid to top off your look in style.
