STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Forever Classic Trench

Style Advice of the Week

This past week at James Madison University it has been unseasonably warm, seems spring may be in the near future. While it was not warm enough to go without a jacket, it was the perfect weather for an all so classic trench. The trench coat is a must have in all Fashionistas’ closets. The trench was first created during World War I by Thomas Burberry for military men keeping them both warm and dry. Today the trench has become a sophisticated and feminine staple in women’s wardrobes that can be worn with a dress or pants, worn opened or  closed and is available in various colors. The trench can be found  on the runway of many top designers including Dolce&GabbanaAlexander McQueen and of course Burberry.  Kate Middleton and Victoria Beckham have also been spotted rockin’ the trench.

This Fashionista was found wearing the traditional khaki trench with a denim button up and cropped khakis  She wears the trench opened and ties her look together with a simple black scarf. With a neutral colored trench, this Fashionista is able to wear her trench in fall, winter and spring and can easily change her look by add color with a scarf and other accessories.

While we would all love to wear a designer trench to class, our college budgets do not allow for that. However, you can still get this look. LuLu’s, ASOS and J.Crew have some great affordable options for a girl on a college budget.

Spring is right around the corner and some campuses are already beginning to see early signs of spring. Be sure to add the trench to your transitional wardrobe as we say “goodbye winter and hello spring.”
