STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Fall Basics

December 12th, 2016 at 2:00am

Hello Fashionistas/os and fashion followers! The cold weather came in quickly and Chicagoans are feeling the transition from fall to winter-like temperatures. It’s time to break out looks that will not only keep you warm, but looking fashionable, as well. How does one keep from freezing, while still looking cute? Let’s start with the basics.

Today’s Fashionista is wearing a black turtleneck, which is a fall staple that is a must have in everyone’s wardrobe. Turtlenecks are the best because they keep your neck warm even on those days you forget to wear a scarf. She paired the top with a fun pair of diamond print skinny jeans. You can not go wrong with a good fitted pair of skinny jeans. Of course, no fall look is complete without a pair of booties. This Fashionista’s black booties are clean and minimalistic, so they will go with anything.

My favorite element about this look is her star choker necklace! Choker necklaces have comeback full swing from the early 2000s. I love this trend so much because even with a high neckline you can still see a choker necklace. It makes any outfit look more trendy and youthful. This necklace matches her beautiful shimmery star scarf. There is something so cute and whimsical about it that allows her real sense of style to come through. The look is complete with a black fitted peacoat to keep warm.

Ultimately, my style advice for the week is never sacrifice your personal style to stay warm. There are basic pieces that are a must for your fall wardrobe but put your own personal spin on it. Play with patterns this fall and mix and match them!
