STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Denim Skirt Comeback

Little did I know in eighth grade that my cut-off denim skirt would re-emerge with style and poise during my senior year of college. When I first saw the return of the infamous jean skirt, I was confused. Could this be the same piece of clothing I wore with my favorite Hollister, graphic T-shirt and the iconic Sperry Top-Siders in middle school?

Indeed, it is the same piece, but with its reentrance into the fashion world, it has been redefined. The denim skirt is no longer a tween’s staple, but a sophisticated and reinvented garment that can be a part of every Fashionista’s wardrobe.

A variety of different shapes, styles and washes are available now in stores. Everything from long, denim skirts to short denim pencil skirts are trendy. The A-line shaped, jean skirt with buttons down the front, like this one from ASOS, is one of the more popular designs at the moment.

This Fashionista knows exactly how to style a denim skirt for a casual afternoon of going to class and running errands. She styled this dark wash skirt with a striped tank knotted at the front with nude woven sandals. A jean skirt also looks great paired with a plain white T-shirt and some high-top Converse sneakers.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t be afraid to pair something old with something new. I bought this skirt when I was in seventh grade, and I’m still wearing it today—paired with a shirt I just added to my closet. Think outside of the box!”
