STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Boho Structuralist

Boho, polished, minimalist, goth and classic are just a few examples of the plethora of style types or categories with which today’s Fashionistas and Fashionistos identify. However, sometimes the best outfits are unearthed by combining elements of these different style categories. After all, fashion is all about experimenting. For instance, I tend to stick to basics and outfits that are minimalist and structured. I usually add in athletic or vintage elements to liven up my outfits and further define my personal style.

This Fashionista builds her outfit around a pair of black high-waisted trousers. The pants are combined with a sleeveless crochet top. A leather shoulder bag in a classic silhouette is added to the look, and the outfit is completed with a pair of penny loafers and tortoiseshell sunglasses. The classic, structured pieces in the outfit—the trousers, the bag, the loafers and the sunglasses—are complemented by the femininity of the bohemian-style crochet blouse. This Fashionista effortlessly combines two opposite styles in one perfect outfit.

The key to finding your personal style or creating the perfect outfit is experimenting with pieces that appeal to you, regardless of style type or category. If you’re into basics like me, don’t hesitate to combine that ornate brocade jacket with your basic white T-shirt and skinny jeans. If your style is feminine, try pairing your printed dress with sneakers instead of your usual sandals or flats.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “You can begin building your outfit with basics, but don’t be afraid to mix in different elements or styles to your look. You will be surprised by how well some totally different pieces work together.”
