STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The American Dream

June 14th, 2016 at 2:05am

Jeans and a T-shirt have continued to be the classic American uniform for centuries. Brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Levi Brand Jeans and American Apparel have been capitalizing on this look for years. Now, other designers are finally starting to follow suit by creating pieces that modernize this longtime classic trend. The key to styling this look is accessorizing. Adding pieces like belts or headbands take something as simple as jeans and a T-shirt and changes it to something super wearable and perfectly on trend.

This Fashionista wore a black leather belt with silver buckle detailing which added a western flair to her otherwise standard outfit. Belts should be your go-to accessory because not only do they look decorative, but they also are very functional when your jeans are just not fitting right.

Adding a bandana, either tied like a headband or worn around your neck as a choker, is an inexpensive way to bring more western charm to your look. This accessory is reminiscent of the working American man, who made the bandana famous when they wore these square pieces of fabric to keep the dust out of their eyes in the factories where they worked.

Pairing this outfit with an off-white bag is a no-no in some people’s books because of the clashing white and off-white. However, I think it adds more dimension to the look and prevents it from looking too put together; two things necessary to give you the careless vibe everyone is striving to have.

Sneakers, which were once a fashion faux pass, have become a huge trend in the fashion industry, especially from the all-american brand adidas. Opting for this high-top version instead of the popular classic “Superstar” shoe keeps the outfit from looking too mainstream.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t be afraid of looking too patriotic! Wear this trend to all your summertime barbecues to bring an All-American feel to the day.”
