Lately, I have not been able to get enough of hats. I bought an adorable black, floppy hat here in Rome and have not been able to take it off. There are numerous kinds of hats to choose from, such as newsboy caps, fedoras, wide-brimmed hats and cloche hats. For those of you who do not know, a cloche hat is a bell-shaped hat that fits closely to the head. Although introduced in 1908, the cloche was most popular during the 1920’s, worn by women with short, slicked back hair to match. We don’t see them too often anymore, but a cloche hat is still a cute, stylish accessory to sport today. I spotted a Fashionista who rocked her cloche hat and made it appropriate for the present decade.
Her hat is a felt black version with a little black flower on the side. The Fashionista paired her hat with a cozy, yet romantic outfit. She’s wearing a crème cropped sweater and a floral circle skirt: both of which are very on-trend for spring. The skirt is black followed by a floral print in orange, crème and blue. The multicolored skirt helps set the tone for the Fashionista’s neutral accessories. She’s wearing black suede boots, which coordinate with the skirt and hat. To make the look more appropriate for spring, she polishes it off with a canvas bag with orange accents. Once again, the bag picks up the orange in the skirt and adds a small pop of color. Finally, she completes the look with a sweet side braid. The braid and boots are what make the outfit in my book and really help tie the hat in. They help her achieve a sweet, equestrian feel, however the fact that the boots and hat are both black prevent her from looking too innocent.
Overall, this Fashionista’s outfit is laid back, but sweet. It’s stylish, yet simple and not overpowering. Obtain a similar vibe with this Forever 21 skirt, this Urban Outfitters sweater, these ALDO boots and this cloche hat from Ophelie hats. Add a side-braid and a coordinating bag and you will feel chic and in charge for spring.
