If it hasn’t been made clear in my past posts, I live for the revival of my childhood trends. In the ’90s, when printed T-shirts were all the rage, kids and teenagers alike could get away with goofily designed graphics on their apparel. I suppose this was fallout from the colorful ’80s, but no matter.
As a trend, graphic T-shirts never went away. They simmered into the distant corners of various stores and the style mavens of the earlier 21st century opted for basic colors in their everyday shirts. Jumping to 2013, we have seen a return of this youthful fad. Icons such as Cara Delevigne and Beyoncé began sporting their prints and slogans, and soon after, designers began putting them on the runway. Stores like Urban Outfitters have only fueled the fire with their wide selection of throwback references and witty catchphrases printed out for wearing.
This Fashionista opts for a simplistic graphic tee paired with her high-waisted denim cut-offs and maroon Dr. Martens combat boots. Although this outfit might classify as grunge, her chic top-knot and cat-eye sunglasses add a polished element to set the ensemble apart. Her concert T-shirt is all the accessory she needs. Able to convey her personality, this look works for any setting, whether it be a festival or a trip to the supermarket.
This trend could not be any easier to execute on your own. Take any graphic tee, I like this Lichtenstein inspired one from Forever 21, and elaborate on your comfortably casual look. Tuck it into a pair of pegged trousers or harem pants. Add a simple sandal and you are ready for an easy day about town.
We all have days where getting dressed in the morning is the least of our worries. This fun trend can make it that much simpler before that 8:30 AM class that you have every Friday. Easygoing and versatile, a graphic T-shirt may just be the solution to the ongoing question of what to wear when you don’t really have anywhere to be.
