STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Taking Flight

So far, New York has seen one of the warmest temperature averages this fall season, leaving all of us Fashionistas and Fashionistos in the city with the challenge of figuring out what to wear to keep us warm, but not make us hot. That’s where the classic bomber jacket comes in, which is a recently trending clothing item that can elevate any outfit. Providing a decent amount of warmth, but lighter than a winter coat, the bomber jacket has become a closet essential.

The style of the bomber jacket, also known as a flight jacket, was originally worn by United States Air Force and Navy pilots and flight personnel beginning in the 1950s. As celebrities began sporting them as fashion pieces in the latter part of the 20th century, the bomber jacket re-entered in to our generation, and for good reason. The standout aspects of the bomber jacket are its versatility and unisex design. It can be paired easily with a multitude of different outfits and essentially be dressed up or down depending on what it is worn with.

For some inspiration, look at this Fashionisto’s outfit. He stuck with a classy, monochromatic look by pairing his bomber jacket with a crisp button-up, which is perfect for a dressy casual office environment. He paired this look with classic, slim fit chinos, and added a unique edge to his outfit with metal cap toe shoes. This Fashionisto completed his look with a pair of black sunglasses, adding that final touch of sophistication to his style.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “To make an outfit interesting, I like to mix edgy and classic pieces together, like my outfit, which is work appropriate, but has a slight fun edge.”
