It is officially springtime, which apparently means absolutely nothing to Mother Nature. Even as 2014 marches on, it seems winter is still haunting the Northeast. As much as we may try to spring forward, the thermometer continues to spring back—much to the chagrin of Fashionistas everywhere. With a different season rearing its ugly head every day of the week, it takes a wily woman to keep, up and this week’s Fashionista is a fox.
From the outset, I was drawn to her dark floral playsuit. Each spring, floral prints are recycled for couture presentations and the implicit message seems to be that floral prints must mimic the flowers in bloom. However, this Fashionista upsets that idea, proving that you don’t have to be a chameleon to channel spring.
With overcast skies and the temperatures dangling precariously around the low 50s, this Fashionista decided to go with the darker side of the trend and rock a winterized version of the floral print. The V-neck silhouette and ruching detail at her waist underpin the general romantic associations with dark floral prints. Sheer black tights and a plush, ivory colored scarf also underline the sense of soft femininity, intimating a delicateness that must be shielded from the bitter cold.
As the icing on the sartorial cake, this Fashionista chose to go with sporty additions. Atop her head, sitting pretty, are a pair of half-band, leopard print sunglasses. This Fashionista also wields a gray canvas tote bag with brown leather straps and gold hardware. Looking to hike this look up a notch? Choose a tote that plays off the colors in your playsuit—in this instance, an army green.
If you manage to catch a day where monsoons aren’t on the forecast, you can also substitute the rain boots for a pair of black booties. My personal suggestion? Lace-up wedge booties. Go fierce or go home!
