STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: T-shirt Dresses

For a few years now, crop tops have been taking over college campuses. Crop tops can be seen on display from fraternity parties, to attending class and anywhere in-between. However, another trend is beginning to make an appearance on the college campus scene, an old fashion rule is that fashion extremes cause reversals. As an example, in the ’70s, the fashion of the times was long and loose, then in the 8’0s the fashion was short and tight. T-shirt dresses are replacing the crop top phenomena, based on the idea of fashion extremes causing reversals. Personally, I find T-shirt dresses to be everything I could ever need in an outfit and so much more. These dresses are comfortable, cute and versatile.

Typically, a T-shirt dress will be made out of 100 percent cotton, or it will at least be really soft. Also, there is a T-shirt dress out there for every body type, just as there are real T-shirts made for every body type. Some dresses will have more or less of a defined shape to flatter the wearer’s silhouette. Additionally, these items are so simple to dress up or dress down—depending on the occasion. For a casual look, the dress can be worn with flip flops or Converse sneakers. For a dressier look, the dress can be paired with chunky jewelry and a pair of wedges. What stood out to me with this Fashionista in particular, was she was able to dress up the outfit while still keeping the overall appearance of the outfit casual. This speaks to the versatility of the T-shirt dress. So, be sure that the next trendy fashion item you purchase is a T-shirt dress—you will not regret it!
