Style Advice of the Week

‘Tis the season for snow in Blacksburg. Once we return from winter break, snow is a regularity in the forecast each week. With wind chills often in the negatives, some serious thought has to go into outfit choices. A T-shirt and jacket isn’t nearly warm enough when an alert for your area warns you of frostbite. Yes, the potential for frostbite. It’s days like those that make me question why I didn’t choose a Florida college, but who am I kidding? I wouldn’t want to be anything besides a Hokie!

With that decision comes consequences. I chose love over warmth so I have to pay the price with sweaters. I mentioned my passion for oversized sweaters in my STYLE GURU BIO. Even better than a chunky knit, is a bold colored cardigan. I adore the Aztec design on this Fashionista’s sweater. I see tribal inspired prints on a lot of pieces including leggings and jewelry, however I’ve rarely seen it on a cardigan.

I talk a lot about how vital layers are. This Fashionista agrees and knew she had to layer up on this particularly cold day. She threw on this chambray button-up underneath her sweater. The denim gives a contrast to the knit but also brings the blue out of the sweater a little more.

As far as accessories go, she continued layering with a simple scarf to fight off the Blacksburg wind. She wore some cool knuckle rings that stood out to me but were simple and reserved. The rings added an edgy vibe. She paired sleek, black combat boots with her leggings. The matching bottoms and shoes lets her colorful top shine.

If you’re searching for winter clothes options, try a sweater that is pumped up with some color or prints!
