Style Advice of the Week

This Fashionisto grabbed my attention while walking to class sporting a modern grungy style from head to toe, shedding light on the ’90s decade, filled with punk rock music and indie bands. The grunge look is all about wearing a specific style of clothing that exposes a more carefree punk rock vibe. This grungy style adopted by many Fashionistas and Fashionistos today is similar to how the musicians in the ’80s and ’90s used to dress.

While thinking about Nirvana, Pearl Jam and today’s Fashionisto for inspiration and developing an I don’t care attitude, you’ll be ready to master the grunge look trending this spring. Keep in mind the grunge music scene is comfortable, dirty and messy. I love how today’s Fashionisto was able to accomplish this vibe while still looking put together.

The leather touches on this Fashionisto’s denim jacket and his leather snapback are my favorite pieces that contribute to his grungy look. Ripped jeans are a grunge staple item and I personally believe that thrift stores are the perfect place to buy a pair of jeans to destroy and make your own. On the other hand, you could of course just buy your own pair of perfectly ripped jeans like these from ASOS.

Another grunge must-have item to try is your everyday flannel shirt! I recommend looking for flannels in muted, slightly faded colors. Try wrapping your flannel shirt around your waist for a cool and ragged look or just wear an oversized flannel over a basic T-shirt! Remember, grunge is all about doing what you want so don’t be afraid to take some risks!
