STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Stay (Mari)Golden

While the word autumn typically conjures up images of cozy knits, chunky scarves and heavy boots, it gets a little tricky to get dressed during those late August-early September transitioning days. So then what’s the best way to channel fall when your heart is screaming cardigans, but the weather says it’s going to be 110 degrees in the shade and there’s nary a pumpkin spice latte in sight? Color!

The best way to invoke autumn when it’s far too hot outside is to bust out all of the mustard yellows, olive greens, bronzes, rusts and goldenrods. This Fashionista chose a gorgeous short sleeve shift dress as the basis of her outfit. The dress’ loose fit provides an overall flattering shape in addition to excellent ventilation.  By choosing a bold color that complements her stunning skin tone, this Howard student looked straight off of Olivier Rousteing’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear runway for Balmain.

For a spectacular summer-to-fall transition outfit, be sure to pair your fall-inspired dresses with summery accessories. This black sunhat adds some much appreciated sun protection as well as an interesting bit of texture. An unexpected twist are her platform sandals, which quickly transforms this outfit from sweet and sassy to something a little more edgy. She tops off her look with a chunky necklace and delicate bracelets, both in the same shade of glorious gold.

Yellow is associated with joy, happiness, intellect and energy, making it the perfect color to usher in the fall semester. Other easy ways to introduce 50 shades of yellow into your wardrobe include less-than-subtle nail polish, bright suede loafers and eye-catching midi skirts.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Be yourself when it comes to fashion. So many people get into temporary trends because they are ‘cool’. Not everyone is going wear Jordans, not everyone is going to wear red bottoms. When you create your own style, and not recreate someone else’s, your outfit will look more natural and less forced. You have to remember that Tumblr is just a website, not a blueprint of what you have to wear to be ‘hip.’”
