STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Spring Statement Coats

April 15th, 2015 at 2:10am

Springtime is creeping up on us here in Montana, but the weather just can’t seem to make up its mind. When it can go from sunny to snowy in an instant, a college student has to be prepared. This week’s Fashionista is making a stylish (yet practical) statement in a red peacoat. A statement coat is the perfect layering piece when dressing for stubborn weather because they are extremely warm yet can completely pull a look together.

Alongside her coat, this Fashionista keeps her look fairly neutral. She wears a black sweater paired with a floral skirt and black leggings. The floral pattern peeking beneath the red coat adds interest to the outfit and creates a nice contrast between the black and the red. Lastly, she finishes the look off with a pair of tan lace-up boots and a pink Prada bag.

Statement coats are great for transitioning into spring because you can have fun with bright colors and patterns but still keep warm throughout the day. They also add depth to your look. You shouldn’t have to cover up your cute outfit with a frumpy coat. Next time you are about to dash out the door on a chilly morning, consider throwing a bright jacket over your ensemble. This will make you look more polished and will complement the outfit underneath instead of simply covering it.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Take inspiration from other people’s styles, but never forget to have fun and stay true to yourself.”
