STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Splashes of the ’70s

In my Style Guru bio I mentioned that I have never considered myself to be a Fashionista. I had a difficult time deciding what to wear for this shoot, so I asked my roommate Thalia if I could peep into her closet for some inspiration. I fell in love with this pale pink bell sleeve top of hers. The floral blouse has a 1970’s vibe, which I am all about! I obsess over a vintage look. It’s fun combining trendy articles with vintage pieces.

The title of this article is “Splashes of the ’70s” because while my blouse has a vintage feel, the skinny jeans are more modern. The ensemble is the best of both decades.

As Thalia and I rummaged through her closet, she said to me, “I’m not a Fashionista or anything, I just like to play around with different looks.” I thought it was so cute that she said this, because this is exactly how I felt! She made me realize that I am not the only one who does not consider themselves a Fashionista per say. She also made me question: what is a Fashionista? Now, I define a Fashionista as someone who crafts together looks that make them feel happy and confident, no matter if the outfit is in style or not. You don’t have to be wearing what is trending to be a Fashionista. Fashion is about creativity and self-expression.

During me and Thalia’s conversation, I told her that she is a Fashionista. Thalia’s style is just her own, and I love that. We are all unique. So my advice here is to do you. Do not be afraid to be different. You can follow trends, while also incorporating your own personal preferences into a look. You don’t have to follow the trends, because you can also set the trends inspired by your individuality. Thank you for the inspiration, Thalia.
