Style Advice of the Week

Two things that everybody loves: a good satire and a comfy sweater. Combine these and you get this Fashionista’s statement jumper full of Bart Simpson. With it being a little colder than usual here in Los Angeles, a light cardigan just won’t cut it. It’s time to reach for the thicker of our outerwear.

When wearing anything oversized, either top or bottom, I recommend pairing the piece with something form-fitting to bring balance your outfit. If wearing boyfriend jeans or harem pants, reach for a tight top. Conversely, if you’re wearing a baggier top, go for body-conscious bottoms. This Fashionista does just that by pairing her roomy pullover with skinny denim jeggings. By doing so, she’s preserving her petite physique while making a statement. For an added degree of coziness, top off your outfit with a hat or headwrap. This Fashionista keeps it simple by wearing a black Stüssy beanie with a leather logo detail.

If you’re testing the waters with statement sweaters, try going for this geometric patterned sweater from H&M. It’s more form-fitting and can be topped with another layer for the warmth of the oversized sweater. Since this sweater falls in the middle of the size spectrum (neither too baggy not too tight), there are more options for bottoms. Boyfriend jeans, skinny jeans and this skater skirt in particular are all plausible pairings for each piece. Not a fan of beanies? No problem! Try a hat with a rolled brim for a classy finish.

For the transition from winter to spring, stay snug in statement sweaters. Say that five times fast.
