Ahh the sun is shining, the birds are singing and welcome week festivities are in full swing! That’s right Fashionistas, school is back in session. As we kiss summer goodbye and begrudgingly start the first few weeks of classes, we have to make sure our wardrobes (and precious moments of freedom) don’t suffer. It’s easy to get in a slump with the sudden whammy of homework and added stresses of a packed schedule. The best way I find to avoid feeling down in the dumps is to dress like you’re on top of the world.
Patterned skirts are a great way to cheer up any outfit. Pick patterns that have either a wide variety of color or neutral tones so they can be used for an assortment of outfits. Pull one or two colors out of the pattern and color block with a plain top and sweater or even use a contrasting color for an unexpected pop. Feeling bold? Try another print to take things to the next level.
Wear a flouncy skirt and pair it with a fitted crop top for a girly look or experiment with different cuts and fits. A pencil skirt with a flowing blouse or slouchy sweater has a completely different effect than a maxi skirt and graphic tee. Use mixing and matching to find outfits for various occasions with the same basic pieces.
Skirts are great for the summer to fall transition because they are an excellent layering piece. Throw on some tights and boots instead of sandals and a cardigan or jacket to make a complete outfit. The skirt keeps its cheerful feel but transfers to a drastically different overall outfit and an eye-catching look.
