Benjamin Franklin once said, “Our necessities never equal our wants,” but that was long before the time of the long slit skirt. The floor length skirt equipped with an elegant slit is both a necessity and a want for every Fashionista. Designers from Michael Kors and Donna Karan have shown off their slit skirts. This Fashionista takes a runway item to the streets and shows us that we can all work our inner model on a daily basis.
The featured skirt is from Brandy Melville. I could not find the exact skirt but I did find this Guiliana skirt in a sophisticated black. It’s a good thing this skirt is easy to dress up and down because you’ll totally want to wear it 24/7. Dress it up with a pair of killer heels and a classy shirt or dress it down with a casual top and a great pair of flats. If you’re looking for the cut in a pattern check out this Cabana skirt from PacSun. I’m a sucker when it comes to Adirondack prints and could see this skirt working in the fall as well as the spring. Free People has a million and one skirts with slits that I am in love with. To spare you a love novel I will only share my top two favorites. The first is this Blu Moon mermaid sequin skirt. I guarantee you will feel like a movie star. You can purchase the skirt in either gold or silver (or both). You cannot go wrong with either. My second favorite is this lovely spot skirt also by Free People. The pattern, the cut, the high waist oh my! It fits all the criteria to be a Fashionista.
Sorry, Ben. When it comes to fashion leave it up to the Style Gurus to distinguish between a need and a want.
