STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Show Some Hometown Love

January 15th, 2015 at 2:00am

I found this Ohio University student in downtown Columbus’s Short North Arts District on a rainy Sunday afternoon earlier this week. I saw his Ohio Against the World coach’s jacket from almost an entire block away and knew I wanted to try to get a picture. Being from Columbus, Ohio myself, I’m all about showing hometown love and this Fashionisto had plenty of it. He paired his OATW jacket with an Athens, Ohio sweatshirt to place further emphasis on the support for his home state. With a pair of Nike joggers and a pair of black and white Authentics (a pair of shoes I consider a staple), it creates a perfect wardrobe for a rainy weekend day.

Ohio Against the World (OATW) is an up and coming clothing company in Ohio that gives people eager to show some hometown pride the opportunity to do so through high quality T-Shirts, jackets, sweatshirts and more. However, innovative companies like OATW can be found everywhere. You don’t have to come from Ohio to be able to show some love and pride for your hometown.

Check out your local town or campus to find companies similar to this one that gives you what you need to represent where you come from. Find some ways to incorporate this kind of local clothing into your wardrobe from time to time. I always try to incorporate some hometown support from Columbus when I’m at school in Bloomington, and show some love for Bloomington when I’m back home in Columbus. A few of my favorite places to shop at when I’m looking to incorporate this kind of support into my wardrobe are Homage, Made by NGO and Kingsrowe Gallery. All three of these stores’ flagship locations can be found in the Short North Arts District in Columbus. Do some research, look around and find your favorite places to give your hometown the love and support it deserves.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK?: “Every once in a while remind people where you came from.”
