STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Short, Sweet And Cold

Style Advice of the Week

Shorts and winter don’t exactly go hand in hand, at least to most Fashionistas on the chilly East Coast. But there are ways to sneak in some thigh even when the wind chill is below zero. Little tricks like tights and socks make the effort of wearing shorts less numbing. A while back (in fashion years), leather shorts were all the rage, no matter what season. They were spotted on the runways of Theory and Rebecca Minkoff in 2012, to name a few. You would see them on Pinterest and fashion blogs decked out in layers on top to balance the leggy statement. Now the trend takes new form in the shape of this Fashionista’s look, and the material she chooses is lace. The lace is a wintery detail in the outfit that transitions her shorts into a look appropriate for winter.

Luckily for this American University Fashionista, the D.C. sunshine warms up the quad even in the colder months. This allows her and other Fashionistas to experiment with more daring winter ensembles, like cropped sweaters and skin-bearing dresses with cutout accents. But of course they still love to pile on layers. She layers her button-down with a heavier coat to battle the wind.

Along with lace shorts, she wears lace oxfords. This ties together her look, accompanied by a military-inspired olive green button-down. Also, take note of her black tights. You can experiment with different textures and colors of tights if you switch up the type of shorts you chose to wear. She wore lace shorts so she went with plain black tights. But if you wear more simple winter shorts, like in a leather or cotton material, don’t be shy to try out sweater tights or tights with a little shimmer! Talk about a cool new holiday party style!

Score this Fashionista’s look with a great pair of winter appropriate lace shorts. If you’re feeling bolder, opt for a lace skirt. For a unique look, try these pin-up inspired metallic black lace shorts. Accentuate with tights and oxford shoes. Add a button-down for a polished element, and then layer the heck out of your body to balance out those exposed legs! Ou la la.
