STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Shifty Summers

Sunny days spent eating Sidecar Doughnuts and drinking Nekter’s “Toxin Flush” have begun to take over my summer. When I’m not folding clothes at 12 P.M. at Forever 21 or picking up the little nuggets I nanny, I try to squeeze in as much time with my friends as possible. Since I float around from Orange County to London to Malibu, I am fortunate enough to build friendships in all of these different places. As you can imagine, it can get a bit crazy but I make it a point to spend time adventuring with my circle of friends, even if we do only see each other twice a year.

What’s fun about meeting up with my friends after we have all gone our separate ways is that we get to swap stories about our new lives in our new cities. I hear about the laid-back surfers in San Diego, the basic white girls that inhabit Santa Barbara, the hipsters that drink black coffee in Seattle and the driven, black-clad locals of New York. Along with hearing about each city, I am able to get a taste of the style in each community. This inspires me and gives me intense wanderlust to explore these locations. Each place has it’s own unique culture and vibe, and I long to experience each and every one of them.

This Fashionista has spent her last two years in Santa Barbara, soaking up the sun in her apartment right next to the beach. Her style is a reflection of her influences—her new home in SB and her roots in Orange County. It is basically summer in these two locations year round, so a dress is essentially a uniform. Her colorful shift dress is totally versatile. She can throw it on over a bathing suit for a day of lounging at the pool or dress it up with heels for a night out. Her accessories were perfect for a day of fun at Newport Harbor. She rocked brown booties and a gold necklace to dress up the look. Her map watch was the cutest way to make the look functional, yet fun. Her aviators gave her the slightest edge and pulled her entire ensemble together.

If you want to stay comfortable in the heat of summer but still look like you have your life together, take a few pointers from this girl!
