STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: She Will, She Will, Mock You

February 2nd, 2016 at 2:07am

As the temperature drops more and more each day, fashionable folk need a way to stay both warm and trendy throughout this upcoming winter. My stylish friends need not look any further. Turtlenecks are back and they are better than ever! Although this trend was most popular in the ‘60s and ‘90s, Steve Jobs brilliantly rocked the high neckline throughout his entire life. To quote the mastermind, “Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.” Though he was referring to the design of his Apple products, the principles of design still remain true, no matter the entity. Turtlenecks are versatile and timeless; their sophisticated design provides warmth, comfort and style in the coldest months of the year.

The interesting thing about this Fashionista’s outfit is that she is not wearing a classic, chunky turtleneck; she is wearing a mock turtleneck sweater. This style is perfect for exemplifying the sophistication of wearing a turtleneck, without fully committing to the reestablished movement. I like to think of it as making a baby step into the turtleneck community. An advantage of this mock-neck sweater is that on a relatively cold day, it will keep one just the right amount of warm. For a freezing day, one might want to make the switch to a thicker turtleneck sweater.

The featured Fashionista is wearing a neutral outfit accompanied by several adorable accessories. To begin, she is sporting a wide-brim, black hat. It is perfect for keeping the top of her head warm in the colder weather. Since the sun shines here no matter the season, she is also wearing a pair of round Ray-Ban sunglasses that complement her face shape nicely. Since she is on the go, the Fashionista is carrying a reversible vegan leather tote bag. She is wearing it in black to match her black hat and booties, but if she were wearing brown, then the reverse side of the bag is a warm, honey brown color. The Fashionista ties the neutral look together with blood orange lipstick to bring a pop of color into the outfit.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Turtlenecks are my favorite thing to wear in the winter. They’re easy, warm and stylish. But, for those who are hesitant about wearing turtlenecks, mock-necks are an easy alternative. They’re found on an array of clothing items and I think they add a touch of style to an otherwise ordinary outfit.”
