STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Shape-Shift Your Wardrobe

Style Advice of the Week

One of those days where you’ve got nothing to wear? Tired of rummaging through your closet just to find the same boring stuff? Maybe you live in one of those climate zones where it’s not quite summer yet but not quite spring anymore?

Bottom line is if you’re having trouble with your wardrobe, fear no more! The advice is right under your nose and in the closet you’ve turned into a huge war zone. Put the suitcases away. Don’t bother to try and slightly switch out your winter for summer clothes. You’re making a mess in there.

For this week’s style advice, we find wisdom in this funky Fashionista. As we all probably know, Pitti Uomo, the most important men’s trade show, took place in Florence a couple weeks back. The city was a circus filled with scrumptiously dapper looking men. These men flooded blogs and fashion publications worldwide. I had the pleasure to attend Pitti Uomo (oh, the perks of fashion school). Inspiration could be found literally any and everywhere. But back to the advice.

The heat had me worn out and I was ready to call it a day after schlepping from building to building and booth to booth. I found my Fashionista in a sea of men in brightly colored suits. First of all, I was intrigued because I didn’t know what she was wearing, especially at an event where people look like they just walked off the latest designer catwalk. I had to find out more.

Turns out, this Fashionista was having a bad case of the, “Staring-At-A-Full-Closet-With-Nothing-To-Wear,” prior to getting to Pitti Uomo. So what did she do? She found an oversize maxi skirt from Zara and turned it into a complete Indian-inspired look. She was kind of wearing a sash/maxi dress/crop top combo. Decide for yourselves, but it literally looked like she “woke up like this.”

Besides turning her maxi skirt into a dress, her look also featured this H&M beaded top. She topped off her all black attire with these Diesel sunglasses. She was funky, cool and (most intriguingly) wearing full black in a rainbow ocean of handsome men. She reminded me of my hometown, NYC.

This Fashionista was living proof that we can be extremely creative when we get bored of the same outfit every day. Just like a skirt becomes a dress, old jeans become cut-offs, shirts become headbands, etc. Have fun with your wardrobe while sticking to your college budget. You’ll thank me later.
