Let’s face it: winter can be a tricky time for a Fashionista in terms of getting dressed. Between the bitter breezes, the slippery ice and the seemingly mountain-high piles of snow, it seems as if many girls feel it is best to store away their frocks until spring rolls around or to just stare at them longingly with hopes that if they do this long enough, the weather will magically allow for dress-wearing once again.
While my college and many others are still on winter break, several schools have headed back, my sister Maggie’s school included. Because of this and because of her awesome back-to-campus outfit, she was lucky enough to be chosen as the feature Fashionista this week. Maggie knew that her first week back would be a chilly one, but rather than opting for a pair of pants, she chose to let a gray pair of tights peek out from her black mini dress and army green coat. She also decided to pair black ankle boots with the tights for a nice contrast, and her gold Michael Kors watch serves as a charming (and very shiny) detail to the outfit.
Even for the amount of popularity tights have gained within that past few years (Gossip Girl, anyone?), it still seems as if college girls shy away from them and gravitate toward leggings or jeans instead. While I can’t deny my love for a great pair of jeans, tights are always a wonderful option for those colder days when you want to shake things up and add a bit of casualness, not to mention warmth, to your favorite dresses. You can never go wrong with a classic black or gray pair of tights, but don’t be afraid to experiment with feisty colored or patterned ones as well. Rediscover those dresses and tights, Fashionistas and keep warm this winter!
