Style Advice of the Week

School’s back in session and college is all about discovering your own identity and trying new things, but at times we regress back to the familiar—our school uniform. Alicia Silverstone in Clueless made them fashionable in the ’90s, the girls from The Craft added some edge to it, while “Queen B” in Gossip Girl added some glam with her jeweled headbands and designer ballet flats to the, otherwise, drab getup. I, for one, love adding some edge to my outfits and when I saw this Fashionista roaming around, I had to stop her immediately!

This week’s featured Fashionista sported the “school girl” look and updated it with a black knotted crop top and her silver spiked fringe necklace. Her spiked black leather bucket bag added to the edgy look and her knee-high tights and suede oxfords played tribute to the classic uniform.

You will see homage to the school girl look this fall in several collections, including Zara’s TRF line. To personalize this look for yourself, stick to incorporating some of your original aesthetic. Just like some of the well-known Fashionistas I mentioned above, everyone can add their own touch to the look and made it their own. Of course, the weather is changing and to modify this look for upcoming chilly winds you can always add a cute blazer to top off the look. As for the shoes, switch out the oxfords for some cute ankle booties and wear some printed tights to add more personality to the outfit. The only rule in fashion is that there are no rules. Wear what you want!
