Miriam Gomez-Sandoval is also a Fashion Merchandising and Design major at Sacramento State and I have had the pleasure to have her in the same class as me for a good handful of my upper division courses. I’ve always admired how talented of a seamstress she was and her perspective on fashion and apparel as an art, so naturally I needed her to be a part of my CollegeFashionista blogging adventures. I was super stoked that she was willing to be a part of this, so I met her sometime in the afternoon for some photos and a chat about her final semester, hobbies and interests.
When not in class, Miriam works in the Sacramento State Theatre and Dance department as a stitcher in the costume shop—she has helped out on numerous popular drama productions held by the department such as musicals, dance shows and theatre. Her love for costuming doesn’t end there as she creates costumes for herself in her free time to go to conventions and themed events that have been featured in shows such as the Syfy channel’s Heroes of Cosplay. Miriam loves apparel, costumes and fashion and can literally say that she lives for it!
Photographing Miriam was a treat this week—I adore the military style cardigan she rocked on campus! The cardigan matches the punk themes of next season without falling into the rough and in-your-face look of the punk style. The military style cardigan was bought at Sassy’s, but a similar article of clothing can be found at Lucky 21 or Torrid.
I’m big on shiny jewelry, so her gold earrings really stood out to me as well as brought out the gold buttons on her cardigan. Her earrings were bought from a flea market, but Forever 21 easily provides similar pairs.
Miriam always looks adorable when I see her on campus and it has been a blessing to have her give me a few moments of her day to take photos of her for CollegeFashionista! What’s so charming about Miriam’s outfit is that its mature, classy and has a stylish flair. It can be worn to school, job interview and any other event without aging the wearer in the worst way. I always find it refreshing with college students can put together versatile outfits!
