I am probably the guiltiest of all for wearing an all-black outfit too often or a “bloutfit” as my friends cleverly like to call it. Especially during these drab winter months, you’ll probably find me sporting my black winter coat with my black jeans, black snow boots and a black sweater. I always find that black is so chic. I’m sure that many would agree with me, but there’s also those who see me and must assume I’m headed to a funeral (but a chic one at that). Don’t let the arctic temperatures put you in an all-black funk; it’s a difficult task when you’re surrounded by a sea of black winter coats, but I encourage you to persevere!
Parkas have been all of the rage this winter, especially in the Northeast, and rightly so. They serve their purpose and do a great job of keeping you warm and snuggly. But, they do not necessarily do the best job of accentuating your figure and sense of style. Sure, there are some cute parkas out there, but most just cover you up without giving you the slightest chance to show off your inner Fashionista/o. This Fashionista’s black parka on her petite frame could easily overtake her, but I was impressed by how she accessorized her coat to create a look that is all her own.
This Fashionista pulls a switch on the “bloutfit” with some fabulous maroon jeggings and a black and white geometric printed cardigan. She adds a touch of feminine frill with a knit headband that keeps her warm and looking cute. She manages to add a fresh take on the popular parka with her choice of accessories and colors. Her maroon jeggings pop out from underneath her long coat and add an element of playfulness. In the sun, with her parka unzipped, you can spot her printed cardigan from across campus. The bold print proves that winter fashion can be exciting, even in the midst of a snowstorm.
Take notes from this Fashionista, and don’t let the winter blues (that usually come in black) get you down! Spice up your all-black outfits with some pops of print and color, and always accessorize your parka to avoid looking blasé. Adorable winter accessories can truly make all of the difference!
