STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Red, White and Beauty

Even though I’m no longer in Washington, D.C., we can still show some American spirit and celebrate the good ol’ red, white and blue with an American beauty! Since my arrival to Milan, I’ve realized that typical U.S. fashion is very clean cut and simplified as compared to the outrageous furs and oversized looks in Italy. This Fashionista takes us back to the states and pays tribute to the nation’s capitol with her blue and white striped dress and red locks to top it off!

While combining red, white and blue on days other than Memorial Day and the Fourth of July may seem a bit outrageous, this Fashionista does a fantastic job keeping her look preppy and fun. Her flirty dress and pop of red lip make the color combo subtle but also put together. She distracts from the patriotic ensemble with a simple off-white cardigan and a fabulous deep brown cross-body bag. This Fashionista’s Sperry Top-Siders take her look to the ultimate American prepster.

This Fashionista kept things simple with jewelry as to not overpower the stripes in her dress or contrast her brown bag. The bag serves as an extra accessory with its tassel embellishment and stand-out color. I have since been searching for the perfect leather brown cross-body for my travels and have yet to find one I like as much as this Fashionista’s. Cross-body bags are essential for traveling and living in a city as a student. They’re a trendy and safe option to keep your wallet, passport and keys away without messing up your look with a bulky bag. Both functional and fashionable—a Fashionista’s best friend!

Whether you’re traveling abroad or studying in the States, don’t be afraid to combine some red, white and blue and embrace America’s color scheme in your everyday look. Plus, find a fabulous cross-body bag to start off the new semester on-trend!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “It’s been oddly warm during this winter season, so don’t be afraid to leave the tights at home and show a little leg! If it gets chilly though, I love to throw on a pair of leather leggings under my dresses and skirts rather than typical pantyhose! They bring in a unique texture!”
