STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Ready Set Retro

For me, my style is ever changing completely dependent on my mood, schedule and like most college Fashionistas/os the availability of clean clothes. What I love about this Fashionista is that her style is just as unique as she is. This California cutie born and raised in West L.A. walked her kitten heels to Philadelphia post grad to pursue a Master’s of music in voice performance. You would think this fearless city chick would be rocking a super cool and hip urban vibe, but this #RAD retro babe is obsessed with bringing vintage back and I am l-o-v-i-n-g it.

While it is obvious that this look is a fabulously executed throwback to the glamorous and classy fashion from the ‘40s and ‘50s, to really appreciate this look a Fashionista/o must understand that the obsession with vintage goes hand in hand with the appreciation for carefully constructed quality pieces that you just can’t find today at fast fashion retailers. So take a minute to close your eyes and think of Marilyn Monroe; think of unapologetic beauties with hourglass figures who dripped class and glamour with every step.

Now, let me break this look down for you.

My absolute favorite part of this Fashionista’s look is her light blue fur collared coat. First let us acknowledge how this light blue is a stunning subtle pop of color that lets the glamorous fur collar get all the attention it deserves. But as any Fashionista/o knows, it’s the details that make or break a look. So now take a closer look at how the buttons decrease in size down the front of the coat along a curved cut that hugs her curves to accentuate her hourglass figure. And if you don’t think that polka-dotted lining is beyond adorable than you are just lying to yourself! Now let’s look at her dress. This is no ordinary little black dress, this dress has a pleated, sweetheart neckline with small cap sleeves and a fitted skirt. Simple and classy with just enough sexy, this dress is perfect under her statement coat as it remains a statement in itself when she wears it alone. Paired with her burgundy leather lace-up bhooties and a classic red lip to complete this timeless look, this Fashionista is ready in retro no matter what coast she is slaying in.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “While it can be exciting to dress in different styles or trends that are out of your comfort zone, your style should stay true to you and express who you are, not where you are.”
