STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Read Between The Lines

January 20th, 2015 at 2:00am

After almost an entire month off from class, I was beginning to feel like we were never actually going back. Sadly, winter break is over and it is time to put our thinking caps back on. Say goodbye to binge watching every season of your favorite shows on Netflix. It’s time to purchase those extremely overpriced textbooks, perfect your schedule and look up your instructor on ratemyprofessor.com (the site doesn’t lie). When starting out a new semester, it’s always important to look your best. You’re going to have a new set of classes and with that comes meeting an entirely different group of people. No matter what anyone says, first impressions are important. Even if deep-down, you’d rather be watching those new Netflix releases or honestly doing just about anything else, dressing well will show your professor that you are serious about attending their class. This Fashionista proves that you can look presentable and effortlessly chic for the first day of the semester.

This Fashionista’s striped dress is perfect for any day on campus. Simple, relaxed yet put-together, a striped dress should be a staple in every Fashionista’s closet. Forget what anyone said about horizontal stripes. When worn the right way, they will never make you look wider or like a prisoner. Stripes are always “in.” The pattern is simple, which makes it perfect for layering or even mixing with other patterns. The right striped dress can be one of the most versatile items in your closet.

She completes her ensemble with a military green jacket, black tights, a black fringe tote, a camera with a to-die-for patterned strap and brown booties. These items all complement her dress perfectly. She uses her camera as an accessory, and I could not love it more! Style Gurus and other fashionable photographers, we should be doing this every day. I may or may not start matching my camera strap to my outfit (too much?).

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Whether this is your second semester or your last semester in college, it’s important to dress the part. Don’t go to class looking like the lazy student that rolled out of bed. Arrive to school like you are going to be the next big thing.”
