STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: RAD in Plaid

Summer is coming to an end, and back-to-school season is upon us. For West Virginia University, classes started this week! I spotted this edgy Fashionista walking home from her first day of classes downtown and she was looking RAD in her plaid!

This Fashionista caught my eye with her feminine grungy-chic look. She started with a flirty, yet bad-ass leather skater dress that was just light enough to accommodate the heat during her morning classes. With the crisp fall air slowly creeping up on us during the evenings, this Fashionista knew that she needed a look that could last her all day. In addition to the dress, she went with a simple long sleeve plaid shirt tied around her waist. This way, she could slip on the plaid when it became cooler outside, without losing her ’90s-inspired “bad girl” look.

To top off the look, this Fashionista went with a great pair of black chunky heel sandals. The heel gave her just enough height to elongate her legs and torso, without making the dress appear to be too short. She also went with the “undone” look with her hair. A half-up, half-down top knot has been so trendy this summer (for man buns, too), and this Fashionista had it on point.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “When going grunge, I always keep it super feminine. It is so easy to get lost under all of that darker, baggy clothing, so I would definitely go with a dress or a skirt to keep the look edgy, but still flirty at the same time. Also, the plaid is such a simple statement piece that provides a function, as well. Literally all I did was tie it around my waist, and it tied my look together. I can wear the outfit either way, depending on what message I am trying to send, and I think that is perfect for a college student.”
