When I went through my middle school growth spurt my legs quickly sprouted longer than my pants allowed. I remember one day a friend pointed to my bare ankles, exposed in a pair of pants I’d grown too tall for, and asked if I was waiting for a flood. Embarrassed enough to still remember the incident nine years later, from that point on I always made sure my clothes fit properly during years of growing pains.
Styles have changed since middle school (thankfully!) and cropped pants now allow revealing your ankles to the world stylish. Long past the age of growth spurts, I now have the opposite problem than my middle school self; I am too short to find a pair of tapered pants that stop before my ankle. When I saw this long-legged Fashionista walking home from class in her mint green cropped jeans, I had to stop her and express my jealousy that she could pull off this cute trend.
Too long to be capris but too short to be considered full-length pants, ankle pants are a great choice for the last warm days of fall before everyone covers any exposed skin with thick socks, long pants and tall boots. This Fashionista chose a black and white patterned blouse and black gladiator sandals to pair with her cropped jeans and a simple gold necklace and sunglasses to finish off her look in casual, stylish way. Sticking with a black and white pattern on top makes the soft green color of her pants pop without being overpowering or distracting.
One of the things I love about cropped pants is how many variations of the style can be found. For a casual look for class, try a pair of distressed, rolled boyfriend jeans with some sandals or a cute pair of booties. To mix some more color into your wardrobe like this Fashionista, try a pair of colored crops. This orange pair could get anyone in the Halloween spirit and would look great with a creamy knit sweater. Finally, if you’re looking for a classier look for an interview or night on the town, try Express’s pleated tapered ankle pants. I love the use of pleats to create a cinched waist and how the clean, tapered look creates a slimming affect that flatters any body shape.
No matter how you wear them, take advantage of this cute style while its warm enough to still bare your ankles to the world!
