STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Put Your Best Shoe Forward

February 26th, 2015 at 2:00am

“Tall skinny vanilla latte please” this Fashionisto asked the Starbucks barista after a long day of work. His drink choice was not the only thing that the waiting customers noticed, however. After observing all six feet two inches of this Fashionisto’s ensemble, one’s eyes could not help but stop and stare at the beautiful pieces of work pulling his entire outfit together: the shoes. You can only imagine the thoughts flying through observers’ minds. Where did he get those? He has got to be a fashion major. I wish my boyfriend wore shoes like that…upcoming birthday present? I think so. One question that didn’t fail to enter anyone’s mind was, how can he pull off those shoes in this negative 13 degree weather? Don’t worry, I thought the same exact thing.

Shoes are any Fashionista or Fashionisto’s prized possessions, so it makes sense that this Fashionisto will snatch any opportunity to show them off. When looking for a way to spice up casual attire, like this Fashionisto, brown square-toed dress shoes are not a bad idea. When wearing dress shoes, one has the freedom to pick from a wide array of fun socks! There are argyle socks, like this Fashionisto’s choice, striped socks, check socks and dotted socks…the list goes on. The shoes not only make the feet look sleek, but they complement the navy chino pants quite perfectly. When looking for a way to look casual and stylish, dress shoes with chino pants are almost always the answer.

Now don’t think that square-toed dress shoes are your only option. Men’s dress shoes come in all shapes, sizes and colors. You have the options of the square toe, round toe or if you’re feeling adventurous, the pointed toe. The basic colors consist of black, brown and gray, but no worries if you strive to stand out with your fashion. Almost any color is available for our daring Fashionisto, some colors including cobalt blue, maroon and even a fire truck red.

The shoes are not the only eye-popping feature to this Fashionisto’s outfit. There’s actually a surprise under the green Nautica jacket that would make any girl sing “Hallelujah” to the fashion gods. A woven button-up dress shirt that is saturated with a rich maroon color provides that pop that complements the brown shoes so perfectly. The white buttons and small dots in the pattern add a crisp and pure element that match the dotted detail on the shoes. Walking around campus with a Starbucks drink alone would make people stare and long for a warm coffee, but I have a feeling observers will be longing for much more than Starbucks when watching this Fashionisto walk past…perhaps those shoes?
