So we’re sitting in U.S. History and “1960s” is written across the board. One word immediately comes to my mind—hippies! The Hippie movement, inspired by rebellious young adults, embodied a very unique style and way of life. The trends brought to life during the Age of Aquarius made a very lasting impression in the world of fashion. My personal favorites? Tie-dye, fringe and flower power of course! And guess what, these ‘60s (and ‘70s) trends are back again! There has definitely been a reincarnation of hippie-chic, as well as boho chic, in today’s fashion and Fashionistas everywhere are showing off how they embrace the essence of the flower children.
One of the newest ways to bring hippie style into your wardrobe is with long, flowing floral pants. The Fashionista shown here has rocked hers perfectly! The simple yet elegant floral pattern of the wide-leg pair (from Target, might I add) give her look that flower power spirit with a more modern feel. In addition, the high-waist brings her look right in line with today’s top trends! What makes this look work so flawlessly is the easy pieces that our Fashionista has worn to complement the effortless flow of the pants. Her knotted white tank allows the pants to stand out while her hot pink lace bralette gives just that little touch of color that is needed. She ties it all together with simple nude flats, gold accessories and a cool pair of aviators. Our Fashionista has approached her look with comfort and ease in mind but her choices work together to prove that she knew how to bring the modern day hippie in her to the surface.
Today’s hippie style goes hand-in-hand with a boho style, both all about being free and full of life. This specific look is definitely very daytime and relaxed but these pants have a lot of potential to be worn so many ways! Whether for a day at the mall or to dinner with the girls, their versatility is endless. For example, try a black leotard under them like this one from American Apparel and a chunky statement necklace. Finish it off with a pair of platform heels (another great ‘60s trend) and you’ve taken this look to a more dressy level.
Another great part about this style of pants is that it looks great on every body type! No matter how tall you are or what type of curves you own, the wide-leg cut and flare of the Palazzo pant style falls down your body giving every girl an elongated silhouette.
So don’t be afraid to travel back to the time of pyschedelic rock and Woodstock and free your inner hippie. Pull on a pair of pants like these and add a flower headband or try a more boho pattern like this vintage pair from Etsy with a fringe vest. Whichever way you decide to put the hip back in hippie, stay groovy Fashionistas!
