STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Puff-tastic Topper

March 11th, 2015 at 2:00am

I think we can all agree that it has been a long winter. Between the record low temperatures and record high snowfalls, many of us have let our stylish threads take a backseat to more practical ones. Is there anyone who thinks frostbite is cute? Yeah, I didn’t think so. Despite the biting weather, dressing like a bona fide street style star is still possible.

Before you reach for your trusty peacoat, consider a different coat style to protect you from the nippy elements. I’m referring to the puffer jacket! Now, I know that you may have your doubts about its appeal factor but the down-filled jacket has made a big comeback. The key to finding a flattering puffer jacket (because no one wants to look like a marshmallow) is to find a less puffy puffer jacket.

This Fashionista nailed the look by sporting a streamlined puffer coat in a silvery gray shade. The soft, ribbed cuffs and thigh-length silhouette helps keep in the warmth when the mercury starts to drop. Also, one of the best things about a puffer coat is that it is water repellent so you can take on the vacillating weather with confidence. The Fashionista paired a tan sweater and black skinnies with her no fuss coat. She punctuated her ensemble with a pair of cognac-colored booties. For added sparkle, she accessorized with her favorite pearl earrings and Ray-Ban aviators. Without a doubt, I’d wear her laid back outfit everyday if it were socially acceptable.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I like to keep my looks simple and comfortable. By doing so, I can wear a trendy piece without looking overdone. Classic styling is always best.”
