A couple years ago, I was shopping with one of my friends in PacSun. I immediately spotted these black and gray floral printed pants. I turned to my friend and asked jokingly, “Would you still talk to me if I wore these?” I honestly don’t remember her answer, probably because deep down I knew it was love at first sight. With much hesitation and a good thirty minutes walking around the store wearing them, I ended up purchasing the item. Looking back on this moment of time, I don’t understand why a pair of printed pants gave me so much anxiety or why I even cared what my friend thought. After I bought my first pair, I could not get enough. Floral, camouflage, stripes or animal print—you name it, I probably have a pair of pants printed in it.
When I spotted (yes, that was an attempt at a print pun) this Fashionista, I was ecstatic that she shared my same love for a bold print. Her striped pants are casual, yet make a statement and make her ensemble interesting. Not to mention that the vertical stripe makes her legs look extra long which is always a plus for vertically challenged girls like myself. The key to pulling off a big print is confidence. If you love it, wear it. Don’t worry about other people when it comes to your personal style. In the wise words of LZ Granderson, “Personal style isn’t simply an exercise in parroting but rather an exhibition for our own stories.”
She completes her ensemble with a floral printed shirt, leather jacket, combat boots and a mix of simple accessories. This Fashionista proves that you can mix prints in a tasteful way. Juxtaposing different designs in one outfit is daring and shows a willingness to take risks with clothing.
This week, I encourage you to not ask your friends for clothing advice and simply listen to yourself. Wear what you like and don’t be afraid to be adventurous with your personal style.
